MILTON - Supervisor Scott Ostrander announced on March 24 that the Milton Town Board unanimously voted to approve the installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargers at multiple locations on Town properties.

“We will be the first municipality in Saratoga County to offer this important service to our community,‚ said Ostrander. “There are changes coming our way as a result of Federal and State initiatives towards electrification, so we are now positioning Milton and its residents to be prepared for the upcoming transition,‚ said Ostrander.

The Town will enter into an agreement with New York Renewable Energy, Engineering, and Recycling Group (NYREER) whereby NYREER will be supplying the necessary hardware and chargers, as well as the necessary installation and infrastructure work supplied through National Grid, all provided through various grant programs. As a result, there will be no net cost to the Town of Milton and its residents. EV Chargers will be installed at the Milton Town Hall, Park & Ride, the Town Park on Geyser Road, and the Community Center on Northline Road.

While electric vehicles make up only a small fraction of vehicles on the road today, sales of EV’s have been steadily increasing in New York, in part, because of the law recently signed by Governor Kathy Hochul banning the sale of traditional gas-powered cars by year 2035, the same date that General Motors has set to switch production to all EV’s.
