But if you ask Amanda Holmstrom, a 12-year veteran in the beauty field, her labor is a passion that she thoroughly enjoys.
“I like the procedures; I like the work,” said Holmstrom, 29, who operates Wicked Beauty, located inside the Shear Gold Hair Design building on Route 9P in Saratoga Springs.
Holmstrom, a Long Island native who has lived in South Glens Falls since 2019, had previously specialized in hair procedures—styling, cutting, and coloring. But about seven years ago, on a lark, she tried her hand at beautifying eyelashes and brows. “I liked the results,” she said. After that, she was hooked. “I just wanted to do something different in the beauty field, and that’s where I found my passion.”
Holmstrom now specializes in, as she put it, “all things lashes and brows,” including eyelash extensions, eyelash lifts and tints, waxing, microblading, and brow laminations and tints.
She has a cosmetology license as well as two certificates for lash extensions and one each for lash lifts, microblading, and brow laminations. As part of her craft, Holmstrom uses special glues and has all kinds of lash extensions in different diameters and sizes.
Before she administers any procedure, Holmstrom said she likes to make sure that her clients “are well prepared with the knowledge they need” so they know what to expect.
She said she has a good relationship with her clients “as long as you’re listening to (them) and giving them what they want and (making) sure to explain the procedure and the aftercare. I like making people feel good about themselves. When you see the results on people, and they absolutely love it, that’s the best feeling.”
Holmstrom works Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Appointments with her can be scheduled through Shear Gold’s booking site, www.vagaro.com/sheargold, which also lists the prices for services.
