Located at 503 Geyser Rd., the project is a collaboration with the New York Renewable Energy, Engineering and Recycling Group (NYREER), an engineering firm providing EV charger and solar panel installation throughout the state. This project is also made possible with help from grants and tax credits from National Grid and NYSERDA, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, as they continue their push toward alternative energy throughout the state. Those using the new chargers in Milton will pay for the electricity seamlessly, through an app on their smartphones, as one would when using applications like Uber, for example, according to Assemblywoman Walsh.
“We recognize that the energy world is changing, and that electric vehicles are being purchased by consumers concerned about climate change and rising gas prices, but we are also anticipating the state and federal mandates regarding the future use of EV,” said Milton Town Supervisor Scott Ostrander. “We have made a commitment, are now poised to help our citizens meet the challenges of the future by providing access to local chargers, while also acknowledging that electrification must, by necessity, co-exist with fossil fuels.” The town continues to expand this effort and plans to install more of these EV chargers in locations like parks and popular community spaces moving forward.
